Alevoor Poornaprajna Public School hosted an insightful Life Skills Session on 16 September 2025 for its students. The session was led by Mrs. Suparna Shetty—Life Skills Trainer, entrepreneur, and President (2024–25) of the Rotary Club of Manipal Hills. Through engaging activities and discussions, she highlighted the importance of developing life skills early to foster personal growth, wellbeing, and future readiness.

Session Highlights

What are Life Skills?

  • Mrs. Shetty described life skills as the everyday abilities that help us think clearly, manage emotions, communicate effectively, make sound decisions, stay safe and healthy, work in teams, and solve problems.

Why They Matter:

  • She connected each skill to real-life school and home scenarios—coping with exam stress, speaking confidently, resolving peer conflicts, managing project timelines, and building healthy digital habits.

Life Skills Lab – A Practical Approach:

  • Students were introduced to the concept of a Life Skills Lab—a dedicated space or toolkit to practice life skills regularly through role-plays, reflection journals, peer feedback, and mindfulness activities.

Active Student Participation:

  • Learners engaged in simple breathing and focus exercises, quick decision-making games, and concluded with a personal pledge: “One Skill I’ll Build This Week.” The auditorium resonated with curiosity, thoughtful questions, and enthusiastic responses.

Key Takeaways for Students

1.     Self-awareness & Emotional Regulation – pause, notice feelings, then act.

2.     Communication – listen attentively, speak clearly, and stay respectful both online and offline.

3.     Critical Thinking – ask “What’s the evidence?” before sharing or deciding.

4.     Collaboration – define roles, share credit, and resolve conflicts constructively.

5.     Health & Safety – daily habits like sleep, nutrition, and hygiene safeguard learning.

6.     Digital Citizenship – limit screen time, verify information, and protect privacy.

7.     Goal Setting – break big goals into small steps, track, and review weekly.
